oxidization of carbohydrates. As the latter is essential for
energy requirement for brain and nervous tissue, lack of the
vitamin leads to rapid deterioration in the function of both.

Usage |
Essential in treatment of Beri-Beri especially in the
cardiovascular and infantile types, but not so useful in the
neuropathic type. Used with some success in chronic alcoholism
with alcoholic polyneuritis. There is some unsubstantiated
claim for its use as a tonic and appetite stimulant. May be
used successfully in the burning feet syndrome and in PMS.
